This week I was given my second project of the term, the sentry gun project. My feelings are sort of mixed if I’m honest, on one hand I’m worried about the concepting process as it is a possible downfall of mine. In the sense of usually I get an idea start away and I find myself trying to fit all of my research and supporting information for that one idea, which is restricting in the end as there not many ways in which I can develop the idea. On the other hand I don’t have an idea and its takes me double the amount of time to come up with something I’m interested in and have a connection with but I’m already stressing for time as I feel stressed that I wasted most of the time trying to look for an idea in the first place. So I’m definitely a little apprehensive, however as I know already it’s something I need to work on and improve by working a little quicker and ensuring I open up my mind and not restrict myself I confident this time there will be improvements. When it came to creating a reference / mood board I Firstly just began by looking on goggle, tumblr and pinterest generally for ideas, mainly existing sentry guns. After compiling the ones that most stood out for myself, I found that they didn’t exactly interest me fully or spark any ideas.

After speaking to a tutor and expressing that I wasn’t fully interested, he discussed what I was interested in and types of games I’m currently playing to help spark ideas or a direction to go in. I explained how I liked the idea of a tea pot / childs doll and that I had been playing American mcgee’s alice: Maddness returns games which does have a lot of reference for both possible ideas. We then discussed playing around with the idea of a children’s tea party themed idea. Along with toy story with the idea of mish mashed childrens toys and disney in general. So moved on to looking into that and creating a reference / mood board on new ideas.
